You are brought to a tailor shop (often near Sukhumvit, MBK, or recommended by your tuk-tuk driver) that offers 'custom suits for $100' or 'two suits plus shirts plus ties for $200.' They show you beautiful fabric samples and a portfolio of impressive finished suits. You pay a deposit. When you return for the fitting, the fabric is cheap polyester instead of the cashmere or wool shown, the stitching is poor, the fit is wrong, and it looks nothing like the sample. If you complain, they promise alterations but the core fabric quality cannot be fixed. Many tourists have less than 48 hours to resolve this before their flight. Some shops also claim 'embassy contracts' or 'hotel recommendations' as credibility signals.
