Job ads posted on social media, LINE groups, and Telegram channels promise easy, high-paying work in Thailand — customer service, online marketing, or data entry — with salaries of 50,000-100,000+ THB/month. Victims (often Chinese, Burmese, or Southeast Asian nationals, but increasingly Western tourists seeking quick income) are transported to compounds near the Myanmar, Cambodia, or Laos border. Once there, their passports are confiscated and they are forced to work in scam call centers, cryptocurrency fraud operations, or romance scam operations. Escape is difficult and dangerous. The Thai government has cracked down significantly in 2025-2026, but the operations continue. This is one of the most dangerous scams because it involves human trafficking.
