After building emotional connection over days or weeks, the person asks for money: a sick relative, hospital bill, rent, or motorbike repair. Amounts start small and escalate. A newer variant involves the 'romance' interest steering you toward a 'great investment opportunity' (pig-butchering scam), where the emotional trust makes you more likely to deposit money into a fraudulent trading platform. Many of these operations run from organized call centers, sometimes outside Thailand. The same operator typically runs multiple concurrent 'relationships.'
