Cambodia Visas & Entry Requirements
Most nationalities need a visa for Cambodia, via one of three routes: an online e-Visa through the official Ministry of Interior portal, a Visa on Arrival at international airports and major land borders, or a visa from a Cambodian embassy. ASEAN member-state citizens are largely visa-exempt (14–30 days). Fees are set and paid in US dollars — bring crisp, undamaged bills. Note that land-border crossing availability is affected by the border situation with neighbouring Thailand (see Politics & Safety).

Visa types
e-Visa (Type-T Tourist, online)
- Who it is for
- Tourists and short-stay visitors from eligible nationalities who want to arrange the visa before travel.
- Allowed stay
- Up to 30 days, single entry. The visa is valid for 3 months from issue, so you must enter within about 90 days.
- Extensions
- Extendable once for +30 days (about 60 days total). Longer stays require converting to an Ordinary/E-class visa.
- How to apply
- Apply online at the official portal (evisa.gov.kh): upload a passport bio-page scan and a digital photo, pay by card (Visa/Mastercard/UnionPay/Alipay/WeChat); approval typically by email in about 3 business days. Print and carry it.
- Fees
- Official government fee about USD 36 (Type-T tourist e-Visa) via evisa.gov.kh. Third-party sites inflate this to USD 50–100+ — use the official portal only. Confirm the current fee on the live portal.
Visa on Arrival (VoA)
- Who it is for
- Travellers arriving at Phnom Penh and Siem Reap (Angkor) international airports, and at major land borders — subject to the crossing being open.
- Allowed stay
- 30 days, single entry.
- Extensions
- Tourist (T) VoA extendable once for +30 days; the Business/Ordinary (E) class is the extendable long-stay route.
- How to apply
- At the immigration counter on arrival (about 10–15 minutes). Requires a passport valid at least 6 months with a blank page, plus one passport photo. Land-border VoA availability depends on the crossing being open.
- Fees
- Tourist (T) about USD 30; Business/Ordinary (E) about USD 35, paid in cash US dollars. Confirm current fees, which can change.
Tourist Visa (Type-T, embassy)
- Who it is for
- Standard leisure visitors applying through an embassy or the routes above.
- Allowed stay
- 30 days, extendable once for +30 days. Tourists cannot repeatedly extend — they must leave and re-enter or switch to E-class.
- Extensions
- Once, for +30 days. For longer stays, convert to an Ordinary/E-class visa.
- How to apply
- Apply at a Cambodian embassy or consulate, or use the e-Visa/VoA routes above.
- Fees
- About USD 30–36 depending on the channel used.
Ordinary / E-class visa (long stay)
- Who it is for
- Visitors needing longer stays than a tourist visa allows — the route for extended stays, business and work.
- Allowed stay
- Convertible from the initial 30-day entry, then extendable for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months (6- and 12-month extensions are multiple-entry).
- Extensions
- Via the General Department of Immigration or licensed agents.
- How to apply
- Enter on an E-class (Ordinary) visa, then arrange the extension term in-country.
- Fees
- Agent-quoted and volatile: tourist-extension from about USD 45; E-class extensions from roughly USD 160 (3-month) to about USD 300 (12-month). Treat as indicative and confirm before paying.
Key entry rules
Passport validity
At least 6 months' validity beyond entry, with at least one blank page.
Digital arrival card (e-Arrival)
Air arrivals must complete Cambodia's digital e-Arrival card (introduced 2024–2025), typically within about 7 days before arrival.
The card's mechanics and canonical government URL are still evolving and could not be confirmed against a primary government source this pass — verify the current requirement and official domain before travel.
Fees are paid in US dollars
Cambodia is a de facto dollarised economy: visa and immigration fees are set and paid in US dollars. Bring clean, untorn bills — land posts are strict on note condition and change.
Cards, Alipay and WeChat are increasingly accepted at airports.
Overstay penalties
About USD 10 per day, payable on departure at immigration. Long overstays (over 30 days) are settled at the Department of Immigration plus a USD 30 exit visa (valid 7 days), and can trigger detention and 1–5 year entry bans.
Cambodia ended the automatic tourist-visa extension/overstay-fine exemption, so fines now actively apply to tourists.
